Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery

What is it?

Eyelid surgery consists on excess skin (upper eyelid) resection, and the correction of protruding or bulging fat bags and excess skin (lower eyelid), which give the appearance of tiredness in people´s face. It doesn’t correct crow's feet or gives a total facial rejuvenation. For this, the eyelid surgery can be combined with other procedures (lifting, botulinum toxin, eyebrows lifting, among others). The scar is minimal and remain hidden in the own folds of the upper eyelid and below the lashes in the lower eyelid. It is the most requested surgery by men and women, from 35 to 60 years old, as it gives a local and facial improvement, with a quick social and professional reintegration.

Pre-operative

The day of your surgery you must NOT wear makeup and must wear sunglasses for the time of your hospital discharge. As with any surgical procedure, we recommend to suspend any substance that increases intraoperative bleeding, such as aspirin (aspirinetta, bayaspirin), vitamin complexes, alcohol and tobacco, basically. We recommend this suspension for 10 to 15 days before surgery and maintain it during the first postoperative week. Also, we recommend taking Arnica montana in the previous days to your procedure, to reduce intraoperative bleeding and accelerate your post-surgical recovery. We suggest you let us know if you are suffering from any infectious process (fever, flu, diarrhea, etc.) or if you are receiving any other medication, this is VERY important.

Procedure

It is performed under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, which relaxes and makes the patient sleep soundly throughout the procedure (about 2 hours). The excess of upper eyelid skin is dried and the fatty bags bulging is corrected, if necessary. In the lower eyelids, skin resection is more cautious and bulging bags is corrected, which is usually more pronounced. There are extraordinary or imponderables situations, as with any surgical procedure, which will be explained by the treating professional.

Post operative

The patient is discharged after the recovery, in the first hours of postoperative. Applying cool compresses in the first 72 hours is recommended. You can perform eyewash, WITHOUT any friction. It is recommended to rest with the head elevated to reduce swelling in the early days. We also recommend using sunscreen and sunglasses, for 30 days. You can apply eyes make up, approximately from 7 to 10 days after the procedure.
